Cycling Film Show and Action

Cycling Film Show and Action
12pm Saturday May 14th 2010 at Heart (Headingley enterprise and art centre), Bennett Road, Leeds, LS6 3HN
Join the LCAG for a showing of short films about cycling in all its different forms. Along with the films there will be opportunities to discuss and plan how we can make Leeds a better place to cycle in. After the films there will be a short tour of cycling hotspots in Headingley, councillors and MPs will be invited to join us to see for themselves the perils and joys of cycling around Leeds.
Films to be shown include
Beauty and the Bike – about a project established by Darlington Media Group in 2008 to explore more deeply the reasons why girls stop cycling in the UK - Beauty and the bike trailer
Way back home – Danny MacAskill takes an unsual route to Dunvegan from Edinburgh
Shorts with fixed wheel racing and stunts in Leeds from Fixed Gear Leeds
And much more …
Did you know that the Otley Road in Headingley is the most cycled route in Leeds? The LCAG was formed as a result of campaigns for better facilities on the Otley road in Headingley. Despite some improvements and added facilities this route leaves a lot to be desired and the addition of bendy buses and half width bus stops has actually made things worse. In 2008 the LCAG commissioned a cycling audit of the A660 – you can see the report here – to date none of the recommendations have been implemented. Politicians may have warm words for cycling but on the ground much remains to be done. So come along and join us for some inspiring films, meet fellow cyclists and help turn Headingley hell into cycling heaven!
The program will include ‘Beauty and the bike’ about an innovative scheme in Darlington to encourage young women to cycle along with films of daring deeds, adventures and stunts all done on two wheels.
