With the majority of exercise bikes, a standard bike seat is the norm. Unfortunately, they’re typically uncomfortable and always small. It’s a mystery why this continues to be the case when surely the manufacturer has the capacity to improve them.
It’s such an issue that spending an excessive amount of time on a stationary bike can cause health issues. Leaning forward simply because of an uncomfortable seat can also result in stress of the lower back.
The cons of road bikes
Just because there are a number of advantages to road bikes when compared with exercise bikes, it doesn’t mean that you should automatically choose the former. There are a number of other points for you to factor in, points that don’t fall in favour of taking out a mountain bike and heading for the road.
Not ideal for the average biking fan
A real bike takes advantage of leg power in order to drive, propel, and steer. When you’re riding outside, there are a number of issues that can arise, however. The most significant of these issues are poor weather conditions. And so, if you want to get a decent workout in on a road bike, you’ll need to be prepared to suffer any issues that come up. After all, unlike cycling indoors, there won’t be a crowd to encourage you. You’ll instead be forced to tap into your own source of motivation and that’s going to require more than simply cruising around. To get a workout that will bring out the best in you, you’ll need to continually push yourself. While this won’t be a problem for professional cyclists, the average rider might just find that they would be better off taking the indoor route.
When you’re on a road bike, you’ll need to have the ability to focus your workout on various muscle groups. As opposed to cycling on a machine, increasing the intensity isn’t as easy as tapping a button on a display. You will instead need to have sufficient technical knowledge regarding how cycling works, in order to give yourself a good workout.
Road bike or stationary bike
It isn’t easy to choose a winner between these two options. Real bikes can be every bit as superb as an aerobic exercise machine and there are plenty of other advantages they have over their gym equivalent. But, of course, as we outlined above, there are some disadvantages to road bikes also. The ultimate decision falls on your personal preference. What do you prefer to be doing and how do you wish to do it?
